i do all my mixes the same and never had a problem even when i do my special three coat rendering

i think same strength is ok. just not stronger. you do a 1:1 though so its not hard to get it wrong

3-1 sand and cement on outsides, that is cowboy stuff mate, steve is spot on, the top coat should not be a stronger mix than the scratch coat. 3-1, i cant believe that. :'( :'( :'(
