does anyone advertise on yell?iv been advertising there for about a year and all i get is other advertisers trying to sell me theyr ad space. was going to come out of it in august but a call from them yesterday saying if iwant to improve my caption the price goes up by £28 per month, cant justify that the way things are. does anyone who uses them actually get any work. thanks in advance

have simple lineage in yellow pages and free listing on site. get about 1 call a month. ok for free but dont see a point in paying. better spent in the local rag prolly

drop them mate they are a waste of time as you will see from other posts that will follow, yell is only good, if as you have found out you want other advertisers to call you wasting your time.

thats what i was thinking, any time i do put an ad in the local paper, i always at least get a couple of calls.

yell did me no favours, my catchment area was crap. it only covered my town. not the neighbouring ones not impressed.

i reckon one of the few sectors that are experiencing growth in the current climate is advertising.. specialising in promoting small businesses...
alongside brazillions of other small businesses...
youll spend half your day telling people to leave you alone...
i usually ask them if theyve seen the advert (i pulled even the local rag, wasnt getting enough in, im on the net though)...
when they reply 'yes', i tell em its working then isnt it? why do I need you?
anyone calls up asking for the 'business owner'.. just cut em off..
some of em are sneaker gits too..
I took a call the other day...
'Hi, its blah blah company, we've got all the booklets printed and we just wanted to ask you which local charity you'd like to support, or should we nominate one for you?'
'do what you want..'
'you want us to nominate one?'
'yeh, why not, send em some cash too'
'ah! thats why were contacting you, we havent got your details..'
'what do you want my details for?'
'to send you the bill'
'what bill?'
'for the advertisement'
'what advertisement?'
'well we thought we'd contact local businesses and see if they want to go in the book'
'but youve already had em printed?'
'well, not quite, theyre juuuuuuuust getting em ready'..
'f'ck off'..

click..

I used them for one year......i thought complete waste of money unless big advert.....but in my catchment 15 pages......i thought never again.....but some say it works for them...never me

As you must be on the internet to be reading this forum, surely you all value the importance of online advertising in the form of your own web-space, whether that be your own website, MySpace, Facebook, free blogs etc.
I've not advertised for a few years now and I get more than enough fresh work coming in from my various web-platforms. It's extremely cheap and often FREE. You just need to spend a couple of hours getting them set up and they roll on continuously. (No charge :)

Pete.
