Need to remove tile from the front of a house...behind is timber frame so will need something to render onto??? I am told strong ply and metal laths but also render boards. I am applying monocouche render with textured finish. Which method is best? Is the render board strong enough for textured finish and is ply/mesh strong enough against the weather? All your help is much appreciated cheers

Hi There BSR

have a look at the link in my signature below....

Feel free to drop me a mail to rlord@knauf.co.uk or giving me a call on 07918766577 to discuss further

Use KnauF Aquapanel Exterior then a thin coat basecoat and mesh with a thin coat finish.... Boarded render systems onto a TF is the best, easiest, risk free and most cost effective method.

Lots of great advise above (cheers guys)...

Thanks

Can you put a wet dash type of finish onto the render boards?
Or failing that, tyrolean?

as Owls has stated - yes you can.... ensure you use a quality basecoat and mesh and that the board being used (as well as the structure) can take the weight

some system suppliers specialise in dash systems for boards - Parex is the main one...

You need to educate me Rich :RpS_thumbup:

it would be my pleasure to educate/bore you further on the subject.

the days of using eml and sand cement etc over timber frame are over, renders have moved on a lot with carrier boards etc.

you can use a scratch render over a carrier board but it needs to be a mineral render, standard mono is to heavy, they look the same as mono on completion but have a different composition ie a lot more lime in etc.

the last wet dash we did was a parex system, it was on a gtec aqua board.in laymans this is similar to a plasterboard and it handles the same cut the same, but is fit for outside use and is fully waterproof. the jury is still out on wether gypsum boards are suitable at all, would I use them on my house mmmm..... not sure, but its a warranted system with a full BBA. there are various decent other boards about such as mr lords aqua board or now that siniat have taken over Lafarge they have relaunced the purple board which is a great improvement on the orange gtec board, so you take your pick.

we applied a base coat of maitie [this is an adhesive, there are other manufactorers adhesives such as Enewalls PACC adhesive or Marmorits sm700, all good gear] standard colour g00 which is a chalk colour because we were using a white spar with a 355 mesh [5mm mesh not like mono where we tend to use 10mm]keyed not spated flat, left it to dry, then a top coat of the white spar mixed in with the maite again [colour g00] and applied it the wall, and it looks the dogs nuts,
I issued all the signed warranty on completion for the whole system, client received the signed warranty so they were happy, so then the architect was happy, that meaning the contractor was happy, I was paid so I was happy.

Using the siniat boards on envirowall at mo. Just cant get my head round plasterboard externally

LOL - I know what you mean Dan... common question i get asked, would you recomend it - NO... Aquapanel Exterior is 100% Cement core (not Gypsum)

If you would not put it on your own house....why offer it to clients....

That said - it is tested and BBA approved with some render systems, when installed properly (not heard it with Envirowall though?) - so crack on!

Me and Dale played message tennis all yesterday... never did get to listen to him (those who know Dale will understand that...lol)

I have sent him a mail with your details on it asking him to get in touch.... try contacting him yourself as well (try texting him, might be easier....lol)

Thanks chaps! This fella has specifically mentioned 'Rendaboard' and there's about 180 metres. Looking to match what looks like K-rend wetdash.
Any good? Better options? Best gear for 'Rendaboard'?

I think he has it back to front their Bubbles - you specify the finish you want, then get the right backing board to suit the finish..... after all, it is the finish you live with, not the board that gets covered..

if the board is warranted and that is the system they want, that's what they get. I don't like the look of acrylic render, doesn't mean I wouldn't put it on someones elses house. quite a bit of our work is specified work by architects, developers, parex etc so I have little or no say in what materials we use.

rendaboard are from euroform, ive never used it, but I think there from johns plasterjfes part of the world warrington or Runcorn way, so he might have some experience of them.

anyhow move on to a more serious issue than this rendering lark, has my mrs paypalled a tenner over to you yet?

I don't disagree with that at all....

good,
so I fully endorse knauf aquapanel, it is the best carrier board around, and youd be a mug not to use it on your project. :RpS_biggrin:

PMSL....... Your are again correct...lol

There are loads of boards out there of various quality and price - always check with the render suppliers if you want their approval, it is their render that the clients see at the end of the job!

Rich have we ever met? I have a feeling we may have, but some time ago....

Drop me a message with you details and I'll have to make the effort to meet up with ya soon...

Cheers
