Tile backer boards.

Hey up fella's,
Are there any tile backer boards that can be dabbed on, just been to look at a job, bathroom is being completely tiled by customer, he origionally said he wanted me to board and skim it, but i'm not a fan of putting plasterboards in bathrooms, think its shite, one of the walls is a bit rough where they've knocked thro so dabbing would be ideal really rather than having to stud it all out. not that i no off ,but you could use MR boards,and then stick hardy backker board to that with tile adde

could you not tile adhesive the back of the cement boards leaving the ribbed bed for a key then dab them on when dry? Surely that would hold, maybe with a few stainless screws here and there for peace of mind when set.
