never had a problem before this cold snap but it really struggles to start, I only need to nurse it through another 6 weeks until i pick up a new one, any tips on how I can nurse it through those six weeks.

Probably battery as in cold weather the heater will be on plus your lights on dark mornings etc. All puts a drain on it.
Out of interest, what van is it?

Ok using easy start but it de carbons the engine then it won't fire up without it. I'd give the easy start a miss if I were you.

i always dip the clutch before turning it over.........less weight to turn and all that..................:RpS_thumbup:

Get a lead & connect your starter motor to your battery, connect positive to positive & negative to negative(obviously lol)
then just fire her up, you'll get 12v direct to your starter motor no matter how cold it is it'll start straight away :RpS_thumbup:
I did this on my first car in the winter, but was a pain connecting up every morning so i ended up putting a switch on it & mounted it on the dash for winter starts lol. The car cost me £70 :RpS_laugh:

Just use some crocodile clips both ends on a cable as a temporary measure :RpS_wink:

That's why i used to have 2 batteries & charge one up everynight, then put it in the boot & go to work then swap it over to get home :RpS_biggrin:

haha i had an escort van that the alternator was knackerd it would start up ok but if i had to travel more than 10 miles it would run out of power the lights would dim and it would get slower and slower then just die, wernt worth sorting it though only cos me a score for the van

My lab used to panic when it rained cos I wouldn't use the windscreen wipers in case they drained the battery :RpS_scared:

using easy start strips the oil from the cylinder bores which increases bore wear and this in turn creates gaps and lowers compression pressures making it even harder to start...............easy start are like pringles..............once you pop you just cant stop...............:RpS_thumbup:

you could mix a gallon of petrol with a tank full of diesel we use to run our old lorry like this in the winter.

all cars unless they have a manual choke should be started with the clutch in
Lynx body spray does exactly the same as easy start i guess a lot cheaper also.
