Hi people im interested in getting some stilts, I have never used them before and wondered how easy they are to use, any info on stilts in general would also be appreciated. Thanks
 
I do have some unused ones. I looked like a two legged spider when I did.
Her indoors tried them with no problem.

I didn't persist as the instructions say not to be used for walking backwards which is a must when doing lids
 
Dura-stilts are the best, expensive, but I've had my set 10 years so you get what you pay for.Takes half an hour of staggering about desperately clinging on to the walls for dear life, after that you wonder why you didn't get them years ago. Go for it!!
 
Get Marshalltown skywalker 2.0's .... take em on and off in 30 seconds - none of this leather and buckle strap rubbish.... easy to walk with when adjusted right .... Had mine for 5 years no ... took some right hammer and still going
 
Is it true youre hopup must be 600mm wide now? Must be like moving a fuccking dining table round

HSE on our job said,steps are not banned but we must prove in writing that the are the best option at the time for the task in hand,so Rams for everything, carobyn I think give a cert following training on stilts.
 
There easy to get the hang of you don't need a labour just mix up put your buckets on a hop up and scoop out just be careful on. Tarpaulins dura stilits are the best

Balfour beatty wont let you use stilts on any of their jobs, but will allow normal hop ups with an appropriate risk assessment.
wates construction will let you you use stilts but like you say all hop ups have to be 600mm wide.
All these pr!cks are just making it up as they go along,
 
Thanks 4 the input guys, the pros seem to outweigh the cons so definitely at the top of my tool list, one behind the 16"nela s*p*r*lex im going to order next week:RpS_thumbup:!!!
 
Looking at getting 24" -40" skywalkers anyone on here got them and any good ? have smaller set old style without the single stem but not high enough for many ceilings down here on the costa del crime. i use telescopic trestles to get over needing labourer just jump down for mixing .
 
Dead easy to use mate..... Just make sure there are no trip hazards...... Once you get the hang of it you won't look back...the last pair I bought are faithfull and have been ok...durstilts are good though.
 
Hmmm ok I have old mt ones but as I say they' re too small for lot of ceilings here and ceilings taxing enough without stretching as well, just wondered if anybody had these single stem ones skywalkers and if any good .cheers for reply though and hope things getting busier for you guys over there. :)
 
As a lot of the guys say, durastilts are very good, had mine for 10years + only taken one tumble and that was on a dust sheet, those two don't mix. Floorboards only! As with all your"new" tools they'll take a bit of getting used to, make reaching the middle of a large ceiling easier and polishing up .
 
When on dust sheets or tarps make sure you staple them down round the edge of the room then there is less to trip on
Also if on tarp be careful if you drop a bit as it can be a little slippy :)
 
Hi ,is mainly marble or tiles down here so i tape the floors shut with Brown paper ,as i said i have the old style twin stem stilts but looking to get larger pair as lot of the ceilings are high here and am making life more difficult than need be. so been looking at these new single stem mt skywalker any of you have this style and any good ??? cheers in advance of any info ;)

I use ones that go to 40 but the problem then is that you need get you mix up hi also
And when like me only 5th high getting a bucket with one and a half bags in it upto the hight you need is hard work
Trying mixing up then lifting it above chest hight :)

Rumour is that the MT ones are chinese made... I am meant to be going to @carobyn and doing a comparison for Plasterers News But have been a little bit snowed under :-\

I think @wezley has a pair? I know a therer are a lot of spreads on here that use them :-)

Hmmm just been thinking bad enough when one of the wingnuts came loose on old pair odd feeling but you stay upright single stem failing and im guessing your over or worse through a window . :(

I was thinking of getting a pair and tried my mates on. Did not like how they felt compared to the twin stem.

Hmmm ok ta is fair amount of cash to lay out and then regret,just hope the girlfriend has,nt jumped the gun for xmas :(
