most contractors that have plenty of work are taking more profits of late due to alot of the competition going bust in the last 2 years and still getting sub contractors taking tenders at cut throaght prices, the bulk of any profit now is down to the saving they make on sub contracts/tenders - they are squeezing the life out of the firms because they know they can get cheap prices

you got it all wrong, it's nothing to do with the bosses of bovis ripping us off, it's all to do with eastern europeans, the irish (of course) and pikeys

If they weren't in this country then bovis wouldn't make ten's of millions of pounds profit, and we'd all get paid decent rates.

You've got to put this in perspective!

not sure i totally agree with u there twitch, the cupid stunts in charge at the big firms are constantly making small guys cut each others throats on prices to save money and increase their margins. Dont matter where yr from to them. Its all about the money.

your spot on with that,
and the payment terms and retentions seem to be getting more dragged out.

I was being sarcastic mate.

You've all hit the nail on the head, it's all about profit, pure and simple. And if it helps them justify their fat cat salaries, then along with the politicians, they'll scapegoat whoever they can.

Ain't that the truth, couple of our contractors have pushed us to 4 months, and without a word of " do you mind if......"

Retentions..well thats another one alltogether.....just keep a very good data base on it all. As sure as eggs are aggs...they won't be calling you ,to tell you they owe some retention ,and would you like it .

yeah and then imagine if they dont pay you at the 90 days which is very common

i dont go anything over the standard 30 ,not again no way, i would turn the job down first i had a 90 day and in the small print it stated I could invoice them after 90 days but payment will only be processed when the developer gets paid of the client! so basically it was a no time frame at all really luckily we got paid after 90 days and 1 week but still it is wrong, only do you get this agressive 'we wont pay' habbits in the construction game

Yep, agree with you all. You just can't beat a contractor or builder telling you they're struggling and seeing them a week later in a new range rover or a flash new truck.

I love this game but you don't half have to deal with some knob heads who get ahead by pi**ing up every blokes back they can!

Nevermind though eh, as they all tell us 'We're in it together!' hmmmm!
