smooth render onto house brick

Hi i have to do 2 little garden walls smooth render over house brick. Judt wondering if i jus go about things as normal scratch then top coat or not?
should i just put waterproofer in the scratch coat?

for the sake of it yer id put a dash in the mix with some febmix
