Completely changing our kitchen ,we have removed all the very old plaster off the kitchen window wall and we noticed the plaster was very easy to remove behind the sink unit i could not see any previous water links but had a foisty smell the wall had been plastererd at least 3 coats think

Would it be best to coat with a thin coat of sand and cement or dri coat before boarding the complete kitchen

Thanks for your help

give it a blast of vinegar...
cement based backing coat ideal...
dricoat even better...

Thanks for your quick responce do you mean to spray neat vinegar onto the wall before base coat

also please advise mix for base coat also how think and do i scratch the finish

50/50 vinegar and water, splash of washing up liquid to help it penetrate....
just use dricoat... easier...

just use a brush and wet the bricks up and surrounding area... the vinegar has the added bonus of killin the musty damp smell...

Vinegar is good one in this regard. One of my friends also facing this problem.Mix the water and vinegar.Work very well!

What the hell is this thread about, strip the wall and re do-it.sand n c with waterproofed.then skim.proper job.
