Need to skim 6 artex ceilings and customer wants to keep Coving so over boarding is not an option. I've had probs in the past using pva, bonding coat then skimming so been reading on forum and gonna try WBA and then following day just skim straight on top! Firstly does this sound right and secondly people have been talking board finish rather than multi? Thanks advice would be great.

board finish over artex?? never heard of that do you rek there a reason they call it board finish??

yeh, its cos its for low suction backgrounds, like plasterboard....
multi tends to go a bit cheeselike when theres not a lot of suction, whereas boardy tends not to... but give boardy too much suction and it'll tear...
use board finish over wba cos youve got very little suction, the idea of wba is to use it where theres no or little suction to give the plaster a key..
its not primarily for suction control..

Artex is always a bit dodgey.

Best thing to do is
1) cover the artex with jam, strawberry is best but other flavors will suffice.
2) Allow jam to go green, then cover liberally with hundreds and thousands.
3) Skim with instant whip Strawberry flavor.

Voila, you're done!

Now get the money and go and get drunk.

Yes board finish over artex!

Read the bag mate & you'll find it says board finish can be used on thistle bond it!(same as wba)
And on waterproofed render & low suction undercoats!

So seen as board finish is for low to medium suction backgrounds, once an artex ceiling is scraped & coated with WBA making it a low suction background, do you think it would be a problem using it??

I use board finish on boards, overskims, over artex, on sand & cement.
And i think most people on here do too!

excellent lol ... they dont teach you this stuff on city and guilds !!!

this is a trade where you never seem to stop learning

hi there
there is artex paste that u can use to remove artex
brush on and leave
then scrap off after 30 mins
come straight off if the ceiling is plastered good there is no need to skim!!!!! job done

Yeah i was given this stuff a couple of years ago, extex, if the lid has been sealed before artex it does not always come of clean, so a skim is still some times needed,if i rember rightly it cost almost £90 a tub, and did around 13 m2
