This is what happened last time.

first guy " Idont use screeds and all my wall a bang on blah blah blah"

second guy " your a chancer if you dont use them blah blah blah"

Just get the walls as close as you can as fast as you can and get paid done.

I use screeds when i float , gives me an idea where i have to put on heavier, everyone does it their own way i was taught that way and it suits me Sir

why did he waste his time typing that? i dont give a (german word) about alot of stuff on here but i dont start typing about it?

Kettle, black , callin lol you went to the trouble to write your text in a different colour, copy then paste on here lol

i only ever used screeds once on a job in a mansion block in Knightsbridge as the owner wanted the walls plumbed and level he wouldnt allow a 1mm gap anywhere... I did it and was very well paid as i upped the price for fannying on... if a spread cant float without a screed then he should practice a bit more as thats what derbies and feather edgers are for... i worked in good old Deutchland and they are perfectionists... and i never screeded anything and got paid every week... so i think Kirk should practice more....

always use screeds, may take longer laying them to begin with but so much quick to rule off and far less f**k**g about to get the wall straight.

If your the sort of spread that dont give a s**t if the wall is all plumb and level then free hand is alright, but I was always taught to straight a wall out!

sometimes you come across walls so bent/curved/bricks at all different depths that without screeds you really are just making life f**k**g difficult for yourself in my opinion! Ive watched the two other spreads I know floating and they do it free hand and it just doesnt look anywhere near as proffessional, the only time I reckon it works is on site where the block work is all BANG ON, then its a piece of piss to lay an even amount over the whole wall.

But thats just my opinion :D

its a wierd one when it comes to levelling walls. its like dry lining. i always level the walls, most of the builders we work for have checked them afterwards. i think its just the way it should be done. the bloke i work with doesnt give a s**t as long as its flat. a few people on here have the same view.

i think i will keep doing them. i dont like leaving any thing to chance. in fact lets have a poll... screed or no screed
if you have a poll i think you may get 2 peple voting for and the rest voting against but if you had a better poll then it may be differnt outcome.

ie
screed wall.... yes = 2 votes
screed wall.... no = 20 votes
screed wall and get paid £50 extra?.... 22 votes

good point render, most of the rough asses just want to get it done as fast as and get there cash, i myself am a perfectionist, as a good reputation will always produce good money. so my poll will just show how many master tradesmen are on this site compared to greedy fookers ;)

kirk is right to do the job right ues screeds in ire land the foreman who used to work on our site was a G** wankerr he used to put a 8 foot level on all our walls and we would have to redo walls that werrnt in the bubble proper c**t i seen him get beat up up on a site in cherry orhord in dublin ;D
