Why is the road tax £140 a year on an 06 Transit and £225 on an 08, don't make sense to me they seem the same vehicle.

Is it lower emissions on the later model?.
Fook em anyway just use a baked bean lable like our pikey friends.

Euro 4 is the cheaper rate, had a euro 4 engine few years back, since had a euro5 and now the euro 6, they are both at the higher rate.

Seems mental.

Just renewed mine for my big mud plugger £230 for the year but a new modern disco is £400 wtf !!?? :-0

This makes a little bit of sense now. I taxed the truck 06 plate couple of weeks ago in the post office. 12 month ticket was 140 quid. I thought the girl behind the counter had made a cock up so I said nothing thinking I'm a winner. 12 month ticket on the cheap

It's all a load of ball's based on the Co2 emissions of the vehicle my eldest lad gets his diesel 5 series taxed for the year for less money per year than our pensioner neighbour gets her 1lt old micra taxed

See the tax disc is to be abolished october I think!still tax but its all on computer now days plus bet you its going to be dearer if you do it monthly !they will make out monthly instalments are good only if your selling a vehicle I suppose.

For the life of me I don't get it, Ford bring out an engine in 08 which is not as good as the 06 one for emmisions FFS I realy don't get it.

I've got a battered old land rover....approx 15mpg.. 2.25 petrol....12 months road tax...£0.00.

Lovely.

We got a 51, 06 and 08 trannys at work, all different tax rates £215 £220 and £225 I think. All the same model or as close as makes know difference.

its on the emissions and size of engine as said, both my transits are £225 a year, the mrs range rover sport is the 3.6 v8 and it kicks out less emissions than the transit yet its £500 a year so over double. my navaras 2.5l is £400 and odd.

[h=3]Cars[/h] Charges as applicable from 1 April 2013.[SUP][8][/SUP] For cars registered before 1 March 2001 the excise duty is based on engine size (£140 for vehicles with a capacity of less than 1549cc, £225 for vehicles with larger engines). For vehicles registered on or after 1 March 2001 charges are based on theoretical CO[SUB]2[/SUB] emission rates per kilometre. The price structure was revised from 1 April 2013 to add an extra charge for the first year (the standard cost was not changed, and remains the same as for 2001 onwards). The 'first year rate' only applies in the year the vehicle was first registered and is said by the government to be designed to send "a stronger signal to the buyer about the environmental implications of their car purchase".[SUP][9][/SUP] Charges as applicable from 1 April 2013 are:
