Been plastering a while now and was wondering if any1 knew what causes a sort of ripple like effect on the plaster.Done my staircase (plasterboard) and everything looked and felt mint,ran hand over, and it was really smooth 1st class finish.When plaster dried and then painted ,every here and there was sort of like ripples but when you run hand over you can hardly feel a thing.You can only see them in certain types of daylight sometimes there not visible at all.Can any1 shed any light on this,have i used 2 much water when trowling up and the ripples are where the water has ran down the wall,this is the only thing i can think of.Any help appreciated cos its really annoying not knowing.

you could have applyed the second coat to early so when you were troweling up you were also moving the first coat

You also get this when the skim is to thick.

dont panic mate we all get them, sometimes it goes well and others you think it does and you come in the next day and youre saying to yourself did i do that?
