repair wall after tile removal

Please can anyone advise what is the best plaster for wall repair after i have removed all the old tiles of the wall, the wall has some old adhesive left on ,sections with the plaster of the wall ,but generally very uneven and not smooth.
I am wanting to retile these walls

Give the wall a strong coat of pva, scrape off what you can of the old stuff, pva again then bang on a coat of multi with a good dose of bonding or as above

If the old tile adhesive is not water proof soak with a wet spone and once left a while it will scrape off no problem if not then procede as mentioned above.
