I am renovating my Victorian terraced house. I knew I would have to replaster, and maybe even fix some of the render due to removal of walls, but I then noticed that much of the render is blown.
The house is a brick & stone construction with walls originally rendered with sand & cement, using mining coal in some places. Survey showed no obvious damp issues with this approach.
As I am now looking to remove much of the render I am wondering what the best approach is to re-render before I plaster.
I've had advice from some plasterers, who recommended sand & cement, as originally done, so I want to sense check that.
Should I be using special additives or not, both with render & plaster?
Attaching some photos of the walls.
Gaps in render are due to walls being removed and space made for a later rsj installation, apart from the one showing the light switch where the render was blown so it came away in chunks.
PS: photos are flipped for some reason...
