Hi chaps.

I have just finished my timber framed playhouse at the top of the garden, and would like some info on rendering options please.
Frame is 6" x 2", 15mm osb and tyvek house wrap. It's quite large 6m x 4.5m with turret, bit much for a playhouse really!! Plain concrete tiles, little upstairs sleeping area, so it's like a mini house.
I was going to batten, cement board and coloured render the exterior, but costs have spiralled massively, and was wondering if I could just eml straight onto the osb and use normal sand and cement render.
Would this be ok? Or would I have future problems with no cavity?
25mm kingspan will line the inside walls before plaster boarding.
Sorry for the long post.
Regards
Dave

@Davemc I wouldn't EML straight onto the OSB. Batten onto the membrane, another layer of breathable membrane and then EML. The more effort you put into the fixing of the EML (using tie wires) the less chance you'll have of it cracking.

ok cheers, I think if costs were roughly the same then I may aswell go for the posh render!
Is there a cheaper alternative than the aquapanel boards, bearing in mind this is a house for the kids!!

Hi Bobby.
This is the design we used

Ours is a lot bigger but it will look exactly the same, just not pink!!
I'm going to pvc clad the back of the building which backs onto the woods, but think we're gonna stick to render. Main house is also render so it ties in I suppose.

don't think you'll get better value than aquapanel exterior, easy to work with, lighter than most , i'm sure our resident guru will be along soon (try n stop him lol) @Runswithscissors

Hi Dave

Welcome to the forum

You seem to have done your research already and know your options..... Look around the forum and you will see various discussions ref EML and Boarded Render onto a timber frame.... the costs are very much similar when fully broken down, but a boarded render system is easier for a non experienced builder to build and less likely to crack when the TF shrinks - Best to get an experienced renderer to finish the job - this is the part you will be looking at after it is finished, so having got this far you may as well finish the job well...... By all means, post your location and E Mail Address or number and there will be guys on here to offer to price and do teh work (if that is what you want...)

There is a link to the Aquapanel Exterior Brochure under this post - in my signature.... If you want more assistance, click my forum name top left and follow the link to my profile and you will have my contact details.... I can then assist further and point you at local suppliers for the Aquapanel Exterior....

Good Luck - whatever route you take....

Hi and thanks for the welcome.
I think I've settled on aquapanel board and render, and will certainly get the professionals in for the finishing touches.
Ive been studying that brochure and something similar for a month now!!!
thankyou for the advice.

Was just about to tag you :-)

Hi me again!
The house is right under some giant oak trees, so what would be the best render to use, Acrylic? And what would the total thickness be applied to the aquapanel?
Thanks again.

Hi Dave

You will need to discuss the finish coat with a render supplier for finishes to suit the location - there are several render system suppliers as sponcors on here that are approved for use onto Aquapanel Exterior, maybe @Danny can tag them to assist further. There are some silicone finishes that can be hosed down when they get dirty, there are also some specialist paint finishes that can be applied that act at self cleaning paints (again they can be hosed down, or if it can get to it, the rain will wash dirt off).

The render thickness varies from supplier to supplier, but thin coat systems are usually between 6 - 8 mm thick.

Feel free to contact me if you want any more assistance

Hi everyone
I'm now ready for my playhouse to be rendered.
It has the render board fitted.
Only the front and side need rendering as the other 2 sides back onto woods and are upvc clad.
So this equates to around 35m2 to be rendered, but there is a lot of detail, the turret, door canopy and 16 windows.
Ive contacted about 8 local companies and they have all said the job isn't big enough for them, or maybe took one look and thought sod that!!!
i want a proper job, and am willing to pay for it.
Can anyone help me please.
