Render mix strength

Got a garage to render this weekend, Dense concrete blocks, what strength mixes should i use? i generally go 8:1 scratch coat, 6:1 top coat, not sure if thats right but thats what the old bloke I used to lab for told me to do.

Swap that around the weaker mix go's on top and u could make it 5:1, 4:1:1 last ones a shovel of lime for the taste

Builder boy that should be 5-1 then 5-1-1 ? As your one would not really be weaker
