A small area (about a quarter bag) was skimmed (2 coats onto board) - 3 days ago, the finish isn't great, bit bumpy etc, not bad for his first attempt.

I'd like to re skim it, but have a feeling the existing plaster (not painted) will suck the water out of the new plaster instantly.

Whats the best way ? pva and skim? key it? if pva, which % and how many coats?

Many thanks

Get a nice gloopy PVA mix so when you brush it on it behaves more like thick milk than water. Let it dry 30 mins or so. Then spit on your wall. If it dribbles straight down quite quick it should be ready for you to skim it. If your spit doesn't trickle down and kinda sucks in. Put another coat of PVA on. Keep doing it till you pass the spit test.

No need to key

Skim it when it's tacky all over, like pritstick feel. Any still wet bits will be tricky. Hope this helps
