Hi guys. Im currently render dashing a pre 1920s house in s wales and we have hacked off and found the walls to be a rat trap cavity that is pretty loose.whilst ive heard of these walls before ive never worked on one. Its very loose in places and seems a little unstable. .im very reluctant to just render over and dash. I was thinking of meshing first to stabilise a little. ..mmmmm. just want some advice guys if you've worked on this type of work before. Cheers lads. Stevo...ps no boomtown rat joke's. .ta.

If the brickwork is too live it needs to be repaired, rat trap bond is not the strongest but normally good enough I would guess that it was built in lime morter and the render you have hacked of was sand and cement so you have proberbly damaged it hacking of,only an assumption mind.
