Gotta price a porch for a mate of mine. It's on a old 1890's cottage. I am in 2 minds to use s+c with a drop of waterproofer or hardwall. I am worried about salts/damp in the old brickwork. There is nothing visible inside or out at the moment.

Am I over thinking this??

Thoughts please......

S&C is a shite insulator and porches tend to be canny cold specially on older properties. If ya worried about salts you could use a renovating plaster, carlos

Is the porch 1890's or a later addition? If it's that age and uses the old brick then I reckon lime render would be a safer bet.

Cement based mortar with water proofer may well introduce damp problems where they didn't exist before. :RpS_unsure:

Should have explained better. New build porch. Cavity walls, reclaimed brick and celcons. The worry was with the old house external wall which is now internal. There are no signs of damp now but was concerned gypsum backing coats may pick some salts or damp out the old bricks.

Your over complicating a relatively easy concept............................:rolleyes)
