Heres how i make my plastic trowels
You will need some 10mm mdf, a peice of roof batten and a peice of faciaboard jointing strip. all of these can be found on site for free the jointing strip cost £5 for 5m from any plastics yard.
Cut the jointing strip to the size you want and the mdf 10mm shorter
fit the strip to the mdf with some small screws.
Fit the roof batten as a handle .
Rub the edge and corners down with 900 grit paper ir wire wool
and its ready to use. They take about 1/2 hour to make and can cost nothing or about a tenner.
If the blade damages simply cut another and rub it down
