Plastering Victorian property with solid brick walls

Hi all, just purchased my first property near Southport - an end terraced Victorian house with typical solid (and non-insulated) walls

The inside has been very badly plastered and requires doing again. The outside is rendered with what appears to be typical cement based render

My questions - do I need to think carefully about using lime plaster on the inside of external walls to encourage 'breathability'? Should I also remove external render to prevent any damage being done?

I am totally confused as some have recommended I go all out, with breathable insulation externally and lime based materials both inside and out. Others say 'breathability' is over exaggerated and gypsum based plaster would be fine to use as long as the wall has no underlying damp issues.

Please can anyone else share their experience with these types of properties? It is not a listed property or anything like that

Many thanks
Chris

Loads of threads on this subject.....check them out.
Short answers.....
If it’s wet, get it dry. If not wet, then any plaster system will do.
Breathable is good.

You need a chartered surveyor to have a look and give advice , needs eyes on it really ,some plasterers would know and give the right advice ,probably 1 in 4
