Pigs Ear

A lot of old lath and plaster goes 'spongy' so you may be better ripping it down and putting up fresh plasterboard anyway. At least then it should be flat and have even suction and the gear will hang a bit longer giving you more time, but don't f**k about with it getting it on. Flatten it out as best you can getting rid of any big ridges, brush your angles in, clean bucket and knock up 2nd mix and by the time you've done that, you're probably ready to get 2nd coat on.
