hi..

Still determined to learn to plaster and render..

Im looking at all options as to wherr to begin.

At the moment I hsve two viable options.

1. Course
2. Paying a plasterer to tag along with and learn on jobs.

I know courses are usually frowned upon by established plasterers
As the pupil can become a know it all mouth.

And with that in mind i read on here a good way would to pay a plaster instead.

So..would you guys reccomend that route.
And if so.

Id like to put out there that I am..

21 from
South wales
And keen to learn
If anyone can help I can put up contact details too.

Cheers.

Hi might be an idea to say if you drive or not/own a car/van. Any tools? Any experience at all?

This time of year you may find it difficult though. Out side rendering is all but on hold till next year, so rendering lads are turning to inside work but that's winding down for crimbo.

Good luck, hope you get a break.

Hi carlos.

Good idea. Not driving. Learning at the moment. So will very soon.
Wife has a car so will have use of that until I can purchase a van.

I own trowels and a hawk ( or handboard for argments sake )
Etc

No experience..have attempted and wasnt very good.
But from that i can tell with practice and tuition will be fine.

Renovating a property so have got a load of PB left to practice with
But that covers a small part of the skills involvesd really

I have two plasterers working in my house at the moment
And asked them. However they politley declined.

Lol sorry if that sounded big headed
I dont own two houses. We are renting while we renovate a house.

Gooner. I was born in Dinas Powys.
Some houses in the area are outstansing.
I do believe the pool you are talking about is the property called
White acres
A very new build with to be fair the most modern stylings I have even seen
Listed at 1.75million on estate agents!

One can dream

Yes thats the one Lee, the guy who own's/developed it was a cracking bloke from tonapandy ,oh sorry about the spelling i'am English & dyslectic ffs lol

tell you what gooner, you should see the pics on the estate agents site.

did you manage to see the pool area at night whilst lit etc?
WOW.

I struggle to comprehend that its situated so close to home.

would be a dream to work on projects like that
hats off to you - the work was top notch.

thanks Lee !! have you got a link the the estate agents site mate i would love to have a nose !! yes that guy started by selling cars second-hand and the developing is a part -time job he gets subbies in to do all the work he buys the plots of land !! he had just had a young baby with his wife, when they have sold this one they are going to do it again around the same area , he was also looking to rent it out to the TV peeps to stage a film in ,and whent for a meeting where they film doctor who/ casualty ....... i hope you fined some work mate

Some one should take him on and pay him a wage, taking the piss if they take money off him.

haha.

well, will I would snap up all chances.
reason i suggested payments was as I'd be paying a course..you know.

hopefully somebody can offer something :RpS_wub:

more than keen!!

I believe one of the centers I looked at was in Kent.

would have been a struggle to live away from home for 10 weeks.
very expensive too with travel.

are there no plasters from Wales :( lol.

give him a job gooner:RpS_biggrin:

i wish i could ,its a bit slow for me at the moment, got let down by a builder in romsey ,i might have a bit of work in north-devon soon ! but i have a job in scotland in the new year ,the trouble with me is i have to travel

all over the place for work, and that means staying away ,which some peeps can do and some can't, but i pay accommodation and evening meal which all has to be factored in to the job, and with the recces it's all cut to the bone , how about you doing the wetherby course Lee in maesteg and getting on them houses over port-talbot !! the guys doing that have just picked -up a bit of trowel work IMO.......

never knew of the course in maesteg,
Cardiff centers were after 4k for a 6week course!!

but will certainly have a look.

I dont mind a trip to Scotland, though. haha

you have any info in regards to Maesteg?

Its cost you about 120 grand to pay a plasterer to teach you, waste the money on a course instead then when you still can't do it pay a plasterer to teach you then when you realise its too expensive get a job as a labourer if you're serious about learning

sorry? its cost me nothing. I havent paid anything..also havent learned anything.

exactly why would I waste money? thats exactly what I'm trying to avoid here.

Im under no illusion. I fully expect to start at the bottom and happy to do so.
paid/unpaid whatever. Its something that interests me massively..

and as courses are a waste of money and nobody wants to know unless you have some experience there is a catch 22...

hence me trying all avenues.

Hi gooner - quickly wanted to point out something from that link.

"At present, these courses are strictly open to candidates with proven plastering or rendering experience and who are looking to upskill"

So sadly wouldn't be open to myself.

:-(

im sorry I sure you said you either wanted to pay a plsterer or go on a course

What do you men by nobody wants to know you if you have no experience

1. yes you are correct I did say that... never said anything about intentionally throwing it away.

2. I have tried as many spreads as I can and asked if I could join them as a labourer
most have declined as they already have a labourer(s) others have said maybe at so and so point..but unless I start somewhere I cant excatly expect to know how or be taken seriously.

you cant drive without learning how to.
you cant pass a-levels without tuition.
you cant do a lot of things without some knowledge/training

whatever it may take, ill try.

sorry if I offend by trying to learn something you already know.

everybody starts somewhere.

You didn't offend anyone I don't mean to offend anyone I just like to give people the true facts rather than make myself look cool
How old are you?

I hope Im not giving the impression I'm not trying to be cool.

I appreciate its a tough job to do properly..

what I mean is:
from what I have come across, with no experience..
nobody wants to take me on even as a labourer...
that is from the calls I have made , not this forum.
they have usually wanted me to know how to plaster. even basically.

I know, they would probably prefer somebody who can help out more than lugging materials and cleaning up
but I can only offer what I have..

I'm hoping for a break , to start somewhere.

Ill keep trying that spunky.
as I said more than happy to be a labourer.

but this forum can help in the sense that more people can see me.
whilst I continue to call up locals etc.
