Patching thin coat

Anyone have any tips on patching thin coat spraying? If you tape it off won't it leave a line and if you spray the patch won't the surrounding area build up more then the rest. Just seeing if anyone has any ways?

It's a knack mate.

Do a test board and blend into surroundings.

Done a few through damage, once you have your settings and understand distance, angle, power (flow) and speed of movement - should be unnoticeable.

I was thinking of cutting a piece of cardboard the shape of the patch and build it up that way then once it's built up gently spray the edge?
 
Could depends on the patch and prep.

Also, your confidence and ability.

If your not sure, simulate it (the damage) on a piece of board.

And repair that first.
 
Never seen a properly seemeless thincoat patch. Some much better than others but it's never 100%.
