Overboarding with no coving at edges.

Hi,

I'm overboarding, then skimming a ceiling but wondering how to finish the edges where they meet the wall as I'm not having coving and want to avoid cracks.

The walls are hardwall and skimmed.

Do I cut into the hardwall and have the plasterboard rest on top then scrim and fill at the corner?

Or, is it ok just to board to the wall and then skim and caulk?

Thanks.

Wrap the fibre tape around the internal and onto the wall all the way around the room. Once you have plastered the ceiling get some easy fill, the stuff in a bag that you have to knock up yourself, then coat the fibre tape on the walls with a 4 inch filling knife all around the room. Let that go off and then coat again using a 6 inch filling knife and then sand with 120-180 grit sand paper. You could just fibre tape the ceiling upto the walls all around and caulk after but it’s not going to be as strong as doing it the other way .

Just board to the walls if their finished mate. Be too much of a faf otherwise.

Overboard the ceiling, scrim the ceiling lines. Pva the top 120mm of the wall. skim the top of the walls with the ceiling and twitch the ceiling lines. wipe clean the excess off the walls.

Thanks for the info everyone! I'm certainly no spread and definitely a DIYer!

I know what I'd do - just board it, mesh tape on the edges then filler after skimming. Where there's an edge with no joist to screw into use some Insta Stik on the old boards. Just interested to know what the pro's do.

Thanks again!

The last time I got a pro in to skim a wall he was half cut but did a really nice job. I’ve done all the plastering so far in my house and done ok but was wondering what’s the optimum number of pints to down to give me the ultimate finish.

Thanks again.

About eight pints of Guinness is about optimum.
Hope that helps?
