Takes a long time to get into a zone where you’re fast, clean and comfortable. Starting at 40 you’d be 60 before you’re getting to that sweet spot.
Plus you’re a fatty that’s sat at a desk your whole life so a balls out day could kill you.

Thanks for the genuine replies, much appreciated.

In all honesty, if I had to work with some of you lot, judging by your replies, I’d probably f*****g hang myself. Miserable t***s. Haha.
Maybe ask yourself what made so many plasterers come across as "miserable"?
Plastering is just about the hardest of the trades, both from a point of view of mastering it and from a physical exertion point of view. Probably why so many spreads find it easy enough to turn their hands to other things?

I'm thinking of retraining as a plasterer at 40. this probably sounds stupid to some people but I've worked in an office for 20 years and it's done nothing but make me miserable and a a little bit overweight.

Obviously I'm no spring chicken and won't be able to retire before I'm 65. Are there many plasterers still going at 60?

Also, what are the physical aspects of plastering? Is it just the carrying of sacks, on the feet all day? Do you carry many injuries?

How are people bearing up at 40/50 years old?

Thanks
Crazy idea it takes years and years of working with someone who actually knows what they are doing to pick it up properly and it's hard work with too many different aspects to learn to start at your age I wouldn't give you a year before you gave up you simply wouldn't earn any decent money for years and yeah all your joints will be f**k*d if you stick at it

Rather pad saw my eye balls out than sit in an office day in day out. It’s up there with going the gym 2 most boring places in the world, library is third.
