Is there any lads on here installing ewi? Whats the crack with your nvq im told that you need to have an nvq2 in ewi to install it now. Are you being pushed into it by the main contractors

for site work on the likes of GD etc you wont get on site without it altough you dont need to know how to fit EWI to get the NVQ

yes you did read that right

Hi
NVQ's have just about finished now, (still a few about though) but you need them for Green Deal work sites, however most sites are running under ECO now that CERT has finished, which don't require any NVQ qualifications
If you have a CSCS card thats 70% towards your NVQ in external insulation anyway you just need to show that you can board and finish the systems
If your CITB registered you can get £275 back if you pay an assessment body for your nvq assessment

found a scheme on an estate not far from me in St Helens now I dont know who is doing the EWI on there or if the "operatives" have NVQ but the work is shocking, houses where the scaff is down you can see all the snots dripping off the bell tracks not even trimmed neat.
the brick rend quoins have been done in the freezing cold it looks and have flaired up and turned white and run.
the texture coat has washed off in the rain and is run all over the brickwork, the brickrend, the doors and the windows of the houses.......
seen a few bags of marmo on some of the scaff lifts but not operatives in sight.

now is this what the GD ECO etc monopolisers are going to deliver ? they have taken charge of the EWI sector maybe but they sure aint taken charge of any quality of work.

I don't envy anyone working on those sites mind....but ye your right most of the work is abysmal with the odd bit of quality here and there.

yep there is quality in small pockets and some firms will have looked to seek out a proper firm to take the work in full but on the whole they are all wanting the cheapest job.
but so many horror stories at the moment, its a numbers game unfortunately and that seems to mean quality has to come second.

these jobs are a nightmare to work on £12 to £15 squared at most.nothing for protection or dubbing out ,loading or cleaning. materials miles away in a locked container water and power if your lucky .. truly awfully scaffolding..mostly ran by management with no experience of this type of work.

gangs last a week or two do half a block earn no money a do a legger...

numbers game

its a shame because this is what i am getting told by lads up and down the country.

seen a time lapse video on youtube showing a start to finish from a big cavity insulation co. - not once does a protection sheet go near the windows and at the end you can see the acrylic all over the pathways ? ?

you cant fit a proper job if the operatives are gettin 12 - 15 all in

Is that 12-15 for boarding and rendering?
We had used marmorit and getting wash offs 5days later

thats what im hearing mate all in.

some pay 5 per phase as in 5 board 5 mesh and 5 top but how on earth they pay the same on boarding
(fast easy and they used unskilled men on these schemes for this) as they do for the rendering bits is beyond me. if you fit the whole system and book it in at 5 for your boards then thats up to you but who decided that it was a standard for board fitting - they aint even wet fixing either so no chance of mess.

you will get wash off at this time of year pal the air moisture levels are very high and it is very difficult for the finish to properly cure as opposed to skin over even if you use winter grade

Winter grade is curing well down here. But addi isnt. Did hear frm knauf that they haue a site topcoating up st helens.

I think we are paying around 19pm2 on full system.but that wet and mechanical fixing

how can you do the system on £15 ?
your take home after tax must be about £80 then youve got the weather against you.

not even that , by the time youve beaded windows dubbed out expansions to some level of trueness threw reveals on ,hired and filled up a jenny, then it all washes off all over the path " rob youve rendered the path again" all not worth getting out of bed for.. r the joys

well sit tight fellers coz Im reconing when the quality control kicks in in a few yrs coz firms need to be BBA themselves soon as well as the render system along with paz and such they will have to clamp down (in other words pay a decent rate for a decent installation) because this first years and previous stuff will be suffering in a couple of years and that cant be allowed to go on year after year.

I also hear that the back to back warranties will need to be 25 yrs so in everyones interest to up the game/wage

What kind of meterage could you comfortable do in a day fitting insulation board on average semi detached property ?
