Nicotine stains

Heavily nicotine stained, bare brickwork on an internal wall. Need to render & skim it as batten & board isn’t an option due to built in fireplace surround.

What’s the best approach to stop it seeping through later down the line? slurry then render?

May sound dumb but a steam cleaner may be just the ticket.... Or...

Render carrier board sand and cement over it???

Spray it with stain block, dry in 15 mins ..

Surely sugar soap won’t work on bare brick tho mate?batch of water
It may not change the colour of the staining back to the original, but it will remove the build up of nicotine.
Don't just use one batch of water, change it when it's dirty ( like washing after grouting).
If you just seal it and go over the top then the bond isn't as strong between substrates.
It's just basic fundamentals that you don't apply a stronger aggregate on a weaker background, and that's what you'd be doing by going over the top of the nicotine.

Cow shite slurry overnight then scrub and sponge off next day works but not practical in somecases sugar soap a lot cleaner
