ok then lets be honest the building boom from 10ys ago has gone and even though its picking back up theres many other factors which I believe will prevent plastering being well paid again for many many reasons.

So im considering if to continue in building game gaining city and guilds in bricklaying so as to be able to provide extensions/newbuilds bla bla bla. what u recon???

I see it like this your wage as a plasterer is capped very low at present regardless of how good you are where as if you were to provide building services I believe there higher marging/scope to make on the other trades if nothing else etc!

what u recon???:RpS_confused:

Go for it m8, lot of job adverts theses day now are looking for plasterer/multi tradesmen

Man-whoring is the way forward, I have just applied for a job as a porn star.
I might of got it aswell I heard im on the short list.

if i where to start a building business it would be building maintenance not extensions and new builds. less outlay, less risk, less skill, regular money.

I often see people with trolleys full of plaster at wickes, they ever seem to be spreads though, reading the info on the bags,,,"oh yes,we need one of those"

While some customers can only afford to employ a chancer or dole dosser?? The rest of us are knackered but luckily there are still customers who would rather pay to have a professional do the work. To be honest tho I'm considering going down the teaching route at some stage?? Regular hours and not killing myself or chasing round after money and work etc?? Spoke to @puddove about it on the mine tour and he gave good advice :RpS_thumbup:

Personal I think this is a very good idea, plastering isn't the be all & end all, I think these days you have to be multi trade if ur smart enough to realise it then do it, I plan to do a bricklaying course next year also, my mate does extensions & doing very well for himself & trust me he is a lazy git lol

@zombie fair play to you mate for planning/doing something about it rather than just sit and moan! Hope it all works out pal. Plus all these posts of a few of you going on bricklaying courses?? Bet the Bricky Forum lads are shatting themselves :RpS_lol:

Going to college to do do plumbing in sept so I'll have plastering, bricklaying & plumbing under my belt, like been said before everyone a plasterer these days

I do plastering and my tiling has really come on having worked alongside a time served lad for 2yrs... plumbing for the bathrooms next on my list in the next 18months... need to be into at least two trades nowadays

not got all the details to hand but I think it was working out around 1k and 1 yr for each unit

diploma 1
diploma2
diploma 3

then I think there was 2 additional levels...this is at college by the way think it was 2 days a week but again not that sure only started to flick through early when had spare half hr

my concern/what I want to make sure is that if im sacrificing work time and obviously money in not earning not to mention the cost of each unit that the quals are recognised and not just a mickey mouse badge like.

I don't know why theres not just 1 acreditaton as city & guilds.

I don't know if a diploma is looked at below a city & guilds or not???

I would say city and guilds is the recognised one ? cant you do a 2 week one, if your building trade experienced, then just for small extensions etc, maybe that sort of course would do ya ?

im not realy sure what I think about it all at mo I defo need to do some digging and get some answers!

on the 1 hand its going to be very hard to make that much time and financial sacrifice available doing the long courses....but on the other hand I don't want to go on a 2wk course learn fuckall or be disalusioned as I believe the course brigades are with plastering etc.

age isn't on my side that's for sure but equaly I look at it like this with no pension and cost of living im still going to have to work until 60+ at least with bricklaying if you choose you can plod and equaly take on the other trades that are easier on the body than constantly plastering.

I think that anything would be better than a job where u live your life in x2 3hr windows a day (gauges) where you cant go for a piss answer a phone, sit down for a break or pop out to a betting shop lol

just advertise as a builder and sub everything out adding your cut

thats what every coont round here does

to be honest Jessop I think it would just be nice to be able to have works that can give you a couple of months at a time if you choose em rather than constantly having to hit the ground running knocking jobs out in a day like a blue arsed fly all the time! and constantly pricing every other night as takes a lot of jobs to fill a plasterers week/month etc:RpS_thumbdn:

just become a house dad and work part time like me its the tits:RpS_thumbup: you got to get the misses to pull her finger out

hi marshy - have you enquired about any teaching qualifications at your local college :RpS_thumbsup: since we spoke on the BG tour

the good times have gone, the trade is being dragged down by to many chancers ,undercutting everybody, to many people chasing to few jobs, intrest rates to rise next year for definite, and that will really knock a lot of plasterers, people are cutting back ,a year from now it will be much worse

Well said hector. Can't understand why people winge on here about **** rates.chancers & coursers and then give them tips on how to do our trade

You don't tell the fat lad where the cake shop is then winge like **** when there's nothing left for you

Or just sign up to the brickies forum and pretend your bricking up a bbq in your garden as a diy project, And that you just need a few pointers.

Then drain as much knowledge as you can from the time served men on there.:RpS_unsure:

I'm assuming that there isn't really a brickies forum, surely those thick ***** wouldn't be able to turn on a laptop/PC?
