Hi,

My daughter has just bought her first house but with the way house prices are shes had to go for a ‘doer upper’..and im having to be the doer upper,.

Im quite handy at most things but ive never plastered before.

One of the bedrooms has an artex ceiling that im overboarding and need to plaster,im having to cut chases to fit new light switches and sockets so the rest off the room needs some bonding and skimed aswell.

As ive never plastered before i don’t really fancy tackling the ceiling first would it be ok doing a walls or 2 first to see how i go or would i just create more problems when it comes to doing the ceiling?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Where are you based? Never know someone local may pop in and give you some pointers.

My advice, Have a go at the decorating or if you’re feeling adventurous fitting the kitchen not a skilled job like plastering.
If you love your daughter just pay for a skilled professional plasterer to come in and do a proper job. After all it’s the finish that counts, quality time served spreads can turn a shithole into a palace!

Surely some piss can from nosey book will do that for 4 Stella and a bag of green??

Thanks for all the replies ive went with the majority and decided to get someone who knows what they’re doing in,…id still like to give it a go sometime albeit il do it on my house and mess it up instead, thx again
Good decision, you definitely won’t regret it!
Just make sure you get a decent local spread in that’s highly recommended not a chancer from checkatrade or my builder. (y)
