I met a plaster on a big refurbishment job and he was mixing bonding coat and hardwall he said it made it easy to use and was using it to overplaster on lime plaster then skimming same day. This is new to me as I have heard that u can put hardwall on pva even on plasterboard but I like to put bonding on pva (tried and tested) but mixing the two just doesn't sit easy with me as they have completely two different uses and behavior, my question then is this some sorta crazy magic formula or just as I suspect proper dodgy? Any thoughts anyone?

Multi and bonding get mixed together, they have completely different uses and behaviours, not dodgy.

I've not mixed bonding and hardwall but I don't think it would cause any problems.

Well bonding is so say flexible plaster and finish isn't so perhaps bit dodgy but has its uses limited uses that is. But I see how that can have practical advantages in the timing department but not so sure in the quality department. So bit dodgy in my humble opinion.

As for bonding n hardwall it so say makes it creamy and easier to spread and apparently was a trick learnt when this fella worked in Germany and yes what advantage is there to gain ? Again its that mix bonding flexible and hardwall not is why I say dodgy

Was this fella using hardwall and bonding in Germany? I doubt it, so I don't get it. Neither are difficult to spread it's just bullshit if you ask me.

I always thought backgrounds sorted setting times......not making up your own couldren.
Dirty lying witches.

we often mix the bonding and hardwall together. which we have done for years.
pva, then mix bonding and hardwall 50/50, a touch of dirty water then it sets quickly, this gives you some suction for the perfect finish coat.
I knew someone did just couldn't remember who,so given the choice of bg's backing coats bonding and hardwall @ 50/50 is your preferred backing?i haven't tried it myself but always up for trying something new.:)

Well im mixing Export with Gin right now and it f**k**g works !! Dont think Mrs Marshy is going to be pleased when she gets home !??

every job requires a different application but for low suction back ground bonding sets to slow, with no suction. the set may blister, if you first trowel to early, with hardwall added the back ground gives you some suction and a quality finish.

according to British gypsum -- different plasters shouldn't be mixed together, it voids any guarantee, however ill try anything once within reason as long as it doesn't in flick to much pain :inocente: -- ops last bit meant for swingers forum :inocente::lol:

Who gives a f**k what british gypsum say or advise?
Warrantys? Ha!
They won't be bothered as they are both their products.

Do whatever your experience tells you and f**k the begrudgers

I've got to skim over a load of bonding I've had to float on some plaster board to sort it out (framing and boarding was a mess) should I just give it a pva and crack on or I'm interested in using the muilti /bonding 50/50coat over it if it's gonna make life easier.

You can always just add a couple of fist fulls to each bucket, you will only notice when you go to flatten it in as it will close better. Not as nice to float though as gets a bit sticky.
