Mesh in scratch coat?

Just started a job, it's sand/cement scratch coat then top coat of e-grade. I have been bedding the mesh into the scratch coat over and under openings and along gables where kit meets joist frame. But after reading some differing opinions will the mesh be doing anything in the scratch coat (bit late to be asking this question but nevermind).

It will be fine, we mesh into basecoats all the time no probs,although we always go to spec on Mono jobs to avoid comebacks.

The base coat needs reinforcing and then any stress/weak areas in the top coat. If the base coat cracks then it's curtains for any top coat anyway.

Rigsby, i wasn't going to bother with meshing top coat, i know the mesh should be as close to surface as possible but i am of the thinking get all the beading and meshing done with the base coat and just spray on top coat with nothing else to do but rule off etc..
