Hello Mate
Been asked to do it afew times but declined as never done it, its mainly used in old properties I think, am sure someone on here will know the score

Hello mate Yea I know on the older properties and that so they can breath But ive heard that it should be used alot more cos the cement is damaging alot of properties and causing damp!Just wanted peoples opinion really mate?

I work for a girl who is a big shot architect, at one of the countries major historical restoration companies.

She's done degrees and diplomas and all sorts of s**t about lime.

She is of the opinion cement is damaging too, but I dont entirely agree, the Empire state building is still doing okay init!

When they say lime breathes they mean like a fish not like human, it passes moistuer around rather than air.

And no lime wont become a major thing as it starts at around £120 per metre, so it really only happens on buildings of historical significance (as they put it)

Grade 1 listed, and 2 star, are all lime, but alot of grade 2 listed dont necesarilly have it speced now.

Well i think lime renders will be coming back and very soon i have even put a new website up looking for lime render work http://www.limerenders.com as for £120.00 per m2 thats very expensive i would go in at between £50.00 and £70.00 per m2 for 2 coat NHL depending on the substrate and wether it needs a harling coat first... also the more M2 the cheaper it will be.
Once the goverment realise that using lime plaster and render is more "Greener" than using cement as it produces less carbon when being made then they will either tax cement more or demand builing use traditional materials....

You seem to like your web sites Render Systems, you might be right about this though, plasterboard is a problem for them at present so as soon as they make as much money as they can out of it's production and disposal backing coats and renders will be next. All of this is to make a greener environment for us, sorry about the cynicism.

Yeh but there wont be anyone to do it appart from a handfull of plasterers but hey more work for the qualified again woooooop wooooop

lime plastering is the same as using sand and cement... so what special skills do you need other than to be able to float a wall properly? ( I build the websites myself for a hobby and investment) anyone want to buy http://www.plasterers.us ????

being able to float is a special skill these days coz most plasterers can only skim board. You enjoy building websites so why dont you make it relevent to the us and sell it as website to the americans?

Mine costs £116 per year, but I had to do all the content, which took for ever because I aint a webby maker.

The lad who owns this site is doing a very good offer in my opinion - £250 for two years including building it for you

http://www.plasterersforum.co.uk/plasterers-forum/index.php/topic,4126.0.html

A good website does bring in plenty of work, over xmas I got asked to price a kitchen and two churches (in lime) they both found me through google.

The kitchen on its own will more than pay for my website for the whole year.
