k render what application?

sorry mods, wrong bloody section :RpS_blushing: please move.

need a little help guys,

looked at a render job earlier to be k rendered but its over old flat s/c render...... whats the best application here!? 1 coat system?? or 2 coat using a base k rend then the top coat etc....

iv not done LOADS of k rend but what i have done was over new block work with 2 coat ,so mesh and scratch.. then top coat.... and rub

some help be appriciated. :)

the s/c is fairly new too and solid, if that helps.

a mate has suggested a method of keying up the s/c, a HPX base coat then mesh, then a tight coat to cover....scratch...

then silicon FT top....
 
whats the main differance beteewn the 2? hpx and hp12??

i looked on the rend webiste for tech data and painted render says to use the 12, but a few lads now have said use the hpx!? is it a Superior product or somin ?

also, should i just key up the background then start my base coat nad just push the mesh in?? or should i key up then nylon fix the mesh into the wall....then start my scratch??

cost not an issue to the extent of my using the correct product at whatever cost....

so i DONT need to drill and plug the mesh first!?
can just push it in to the base coat.

rend spec sheet says to use hp12, so why are people saying hpx? there must be a reason.

HPX is for render carrier boards and specialist backgrounds where a degree of wind load will flex the render board, hpx has a fibre makeup to prevent cracking under load,plus its sticks like shite to a blanket, hp12 is just s/c with polymer addy, perfect for masonry and twice as cheap
 
Will hp12 stick to paint without the need for a mechanical fix?

Edit: thinking about it, anything onto paint should have a mechanical fix.

How far apart should the fixings be?

spec sheet says 500 apart iirr, im more confused as ever now lol

so really i want to use HP12....not HPX right,
second, i need to fix the mesh into the wall, not just float the mesh into the base coat?

Scabble the paint off in hand size patches every 500mm, remove any loose mortar,paint, stabilize if you want, lay hp12 base at 5-6mm, embed mesh fully, then mechanical fix whilst wet , 5 pins pm2 at the very least, cover pins with mesh and key

The scabble will provide a degree of suction and chemical bond to the wall, the mechanical fix will provide the fail safe against against base coat failure
 
hp12 is a real good product, its a shame that the k rend bagged powder is poor in comparison to other renders on the market.

you got links to specs of those, be interested to read those mate. iv heard krend is a poorer product but never used parex systems, are they same as krend just with a better product??

same iv heard, looking into parex as we speak, as above^^ is the application and method same as krend, just a better product?? im strugglin to find clear data sheets of what products and methods to use..... seems they sell fk loads of diff products lol
 
the cards are in, the builder also put in for a spec sheet of method to apply and we are going the NO key approach(i dont think it would hurt mind to do it!) but thats what he wants, HP12 with mesh and fixed into wall, FT top.

start in 2 weeks, ill let you know how it goes.
 
started job monday, builder told me to work to the spec sheet! so i removed lo0ose paint etc,SBR the painted render then applied the hp12 with mesh then mechanical fix 5 per 1m2. didnt get much done as materials didnt turn up till around mid-day!

i do have question though, weather is looking too unpridictable for rest of week so canceled my 2 other guys and have put it off till next week now, but if you were to attempt a base coat what would be the minimal time of curing so if the hevans did open, it could take it?? not a soaking but a good shower.... coz im at loose end now this week after having this job boooked in for so many weeks, might attempt a few solo days at just prep and base....

as like render, get away with scratching in misty rain conditions and i know after 6-8 hours of curing it can take a slight bash of rain, but whats this hp12 like? and the top coat FT?

Don't worry too much about the base coat you're putting 10mm at least on top, you don't want it lashing on the wall but it would take a small shower and you could redo any damage, you don't want to lay the top coat onto a wet background or it be raining when you're scraping back ideally you don't want rain for 24 hours after you've scraped the only safe time is after laying on when its skinned over and it stops when you're scraping back do a next day scrape always with Krend unless its the middle of summer
 
nice one mate! in that case im gunna jump in today and do some base, small showers at 50% down here but only for an hour it says, im gunna get to work lol
 
fking hard work that was today, by myself. bump all gear out on crap plank set up on single story roof.... got it done though and sun was shinning :)
 
so i finaly got all the prep done!!! after starting the job last monday!!
right nightmare, had to lay off the other guys due to shite weather and plod on myself getting it preped, took 2 days this week just to do the main flank , by myself on 3 levels..... arrrhhh!

but question please guys, the side is quite exposed to the elements and last few days blowing quite a gale! noticed today my base didnt take long to pull in or skin up due to constant winds down this side.... so how should i approuch topping it out? worried about putting it on in mornming and going back next day and it being hard as f00k!

whats peoples thoughts? hp12 base its over which was also sbr'ed before applying.... its not hot here either, maybe 10s-13s tops.
 
we ended up using 32 bags of top coat on the flank this morning, but i found at end of the day some areas had started to hairline crack, like shrinkage ones, you know what you get if you add too much lime to s/c, those sort..... also the wind didnt give me much time to go back and close it in after ruling it off! so quite a bit was left rought.... hope it rubs back ok :$

i did it in once pass, but might try 2 passes tomorrow on whats left, so a creamer one ontop to rule off too and close in.

whats other peoples advice ? as im new to the k rend game and found it strange to walk away from such a rough job lol
 
for future referance, wind sends it off like f00k! lol

this morning got in at 7 coz i was worried and it was borderline ok, come up good but fking took some scraping1

i put on the rest tooo at around 11ish and the sun come out and hit about 14 degrees! worried for that lot now :$ think i prefure s/c lol fk this krend lark. hoping for grey skys and no sun rather than the other way round with s/c .
