Just finished my nvq and looking to try and get on site in the northeast area, how can I go about that?

Hey everyone I’ve only been plastering for 3 years including just finishing my nvq and just worked with a builder that does extensions and lofts kitchen refits etc, I’m slow as f**k compared to people I’ve read on here doing like 70m2 hits, I don’t get a chance to put much on, 4 bags being my most in one go and I struggled to catch it in time and I just went back to 2 now, but I want to get better and faster and learn the techniques that the lads on site are using, I’m trying to get on sights in the northeast area but struggling to find vacancy online it’s all council renovation etc, do you know how I can get my foot in the door on plots and learn and try to pick up experience and speed or will they not accept me?

Can anybody help me with a better process of how they are putting like 6-10 bags on so fast? Is it a bigger trowel like 18” is it a technique like lay it on thick and flat asap? Just bought some used marshal town stilts and I’ve never used them before so trying to get better at them as I think that will speed me up instead of a hop up, I’m a short arse 5’8 with short arms aswell so not much going for me I just want to make money for the family so want to get faster any help is appreciated! If you want to go down that route you really need to talk to or better still work with someone like @algeeman .
He is an absolute slag of a man, but boy can he cover some metres.

I have looked on YouTube about site plastering and there’s very little on there, I just want to know how to even get on site for starters there’s loads of plots getting built in the northeast but I don’t know how to even get on there there’s not many advertisements so I don’t know how it goes it’s a completely new world to me.

Thanks I would love to talk to somebody like that or work with somebody like that, I don’t even know how to get on site, there’s plots getting thrown up for fun in the northeast and I don’t know how to approach for a job without having the experience, on site, I’m 19 and I think They’ll not take somebody on as young or slow yet will they? I just don’t know about anything on site either like little things like do they work off a spot board? Are people sponging or just laying on, flattening and then troweling in, Do plasterers all share off one big board? It’s the little nuances I want to learn, like ettiquete etc.
 
It’s pointless being able to do quantity if you can’t match it with quality when I was 3 years into it I wasn’t fast enough to do 2 bag hits,but the training was different then you wasn’t just skimming everyday,the most I could do in one hit was 3 bags you just need to realise that some people are just naturally fast as f**k on the trowel

Out of interest what house builder did you get an apprenticeship with, not many would have a gang on the cards banging out plots nonstop.

No gangs ———all trades -on day work -
Doing 40+ homes a year .

For a start don't use words like 'nuances' or 'etiquette', they'll think you're working undercover for the inland reserve.

Walk past or on to the sites and find out what firms are on.

Then ring em and ask for a job as an improver
