Help needed with terms?

i keep seeing on various posts.... but what are people talking about when they say tanking a whole room?,,,, or before tanking it? what is tanking?

its a cementious waterproof slurry thats painted onto a surface in 2 or more coats, very similar to knocking up neat cement with sbr, think 'water tank', needs to be waterproof, hence 'tanking' 8)
