I have covered a bathroom ceiling which had been artexed. The covering
was successful but I have a fair amount of uneveness.

Fatigue set in before I could rectify. I also had a problem with cramp
in my wrist which pulled my thumb across my palm so I could not
continue.

What to do now? Is it worth giving another thin skim over the surface?
Will I need to prime the old plaster or just apply straight on? - there
is more or less a dried out surface now.

Or should I wait for it dry completely and do some sanding off
of these areas?

Thanks in advance.

depending how bad it is youve got two choices and these choices are probably not the easiest ones to make, give up wanking coz this will make your wrist worse and get a plasterer in to finish it. :) Only kidding mate welcome to the forum if its not that bad and you canlive with it give it a sand if not pva and reskim, i would always advise to over board artex ceilings coz its easier with less problems.

Thanks Flynnyman

As plaster was starting to dry I made the decision to wet the surface again and I put on a thin skim of plaster. Much runnier than the base coat. I quickly went over the surface smoothing out the marks left by the float. It looks better but am now waiting to see if it will hold as there is bound to be a difference in the drying times of both layers. Will then give a final sanding if it hasn't fallen off.

Can i ask why you did not get a plasterer to do it ?

Hello Warriorupnorth

I have always tried to do the repairs/improvements to houses I have lived in.

I suppose I am influenced by my father (long gone) who also did everything. As you can see as I have got older some things are becoming harder work but I still prefer to have a go if I can. Exceptions being if specialist materials are used such a recent kitchen upgrade when a Corian work surface was put in, but even then I layed the floor tiles and did the lot, units and all in the utility room.

Fair enough, just seems it may off been more cost effective to get a tradesman in on this occasion, but fair play to ya for havin a go

It's not a cost reason. I suppose it's pride in doing it yourself. The bathroom ceiling will be followed by wall tiling, changing position of wash basin, changing Bath and WC and moving radiator piping to a different position to be replaced the radiator with a towel warmer.

I used to do small electrical jobs ie new plug sockets and lighting changes but I have lost touch with legal requirements so I doubt I will do that in the future.

Another warning I am getting "past it" was last week when I was cutting down a tree. I tied a rope round the trunk with a view to partially cutting through and then pulling it over. When I bent down after using the chainsaw I got an almighty blow on the top of my head and then leg as the section of the trunk came down.

So the day will come when diy stops.

Thanks for your responses
