float and skim

hey all , might seem like a silly question but , what dose float and skim mean? if a plasterer has to float a wall and skim it i always that skim means float?

it is when a plasterer uses a pair of hovver boots to skim a wall, therefore negating the need to use ladders or a platform

It means sand and cement a wall devil float and then skim mate!

it just simply apply the backing coat before you skim
