Skimplaster

Hello all, I have a small (thankfully!) artex ceiling that I have had a very bad attempt at plastering over yesterday. My first coat looks like a dogs dinner as you can see! Please don't slate me! It is my first try... I stopped half way through so half of the ceiling is yet to be plastered. There are lots of hollows and holes as you can see. I made lots of mistakes, like using a far too think a mixture (thanks to advise on a video on plastering on YouTube!). Question is, how to fix it? I could put a skim on top hopefully? I guess I will need to PVA the plaster as it has dried? I don't really want to scrape it all off as it is artex and probably has aspestos and dont want to risk disturbing it?
