First plastering project - fixing low spots up-to corner bead

Hi guys,


This is my first post but I've been reading and searching topics on here for a couple of weeks now. There's a lot of great content here, and even better banter haha.

I've just finished plastering my spare room having recently bought a 1930's semi-detached house. The majority of the house is laff & plaster, with the majority of the plaster blown out and wavy af.

I understand this is a common newbie error, but I'm looking for some advice on whether I should fix the low spots (and if so how best to go about it), on the run up to the corner beading (see attached photo). This is as bad as it gets as an example. I'll add that I am planning on getting a darby for the next room.

I've also attached some more photos of the rest of the work on the room for any feedback or constructive criticism.

Get some paint on it and have a look...

Sand the high spots and fill the low spots... shine a light over it if you want to be picky

Painting it will hide a lot

Doesn’t look bad for a first go. I would recommend the same as Danny said but I’d give it 2 mist coats before getting the filler out.

Also, I can see where the trowels been and it’s all over the shop, naturally you want to mess with it at first but this causes problems.

Yeah I found that less is more as I got stuck into it.

I'll definitely remind myself not to play with it too much (habit of a lifetime) on the next room. I'm doing the whole house room by room.

I got the first mist coat on this morning and it's not bad at all tbf, I took some photos which I've attached.

I didn't get round to doing the top corners but will have another crack at it tonight.

Also, as I left the original ceiling and boarded up to it, I taped and joined the walls to the ceiling; was that the best approach to get a decent finish?

Bloody hard graft though so hats off to all you full timers!

It's getting there! Before and after pic with some light on it and a go at prepping the dip up to the bead.

It took me longer to fill and sand than it did to plaster!

Treat it as a learning experience and when your ry again it should be better.... or you will appreciate what a good plasterer does

I'll definitely be looking to get it as flat as possible on the next go!
