Hi guys,

Just a quick one, went to look at a job there where an old fireplace had been removed and the customer is now putting in a log burner that will sit in the recess where the old fireplace was.
They require the brickwork in the recess squared off and skimmed. the question i have is can i just dot dab some plasterboard on to the brick as it is pretty rough, or do i need to take the roughness off the brick, apply backind plaster them skim???
Any advice is well appreciated as always guys.
Cheers

Hello Mate
I think it all depends on how close the wood burner is to the wall of the recess as they give off alot of heat and may cause the plaster to crack, I have done one that had a good 10 inches of space and was fine, any closer it may be worth using fire resistant cement
