Hi everyone Got cable end to render
the people im doing it for are a bit on the flash side and want to splash out on EML which is great because ive never actually used the stuff

can anyone correct me if this is wrong
1. remove existing render
2. sbr
3 fix eml with the screws and washers
4. scratch coat
5. rubbing up coat

was wondering if lime is still needed with the eml. also do i really need a scratch coat with eml and if i do why

is it ok to put a bit of sbr in with your mix or does this mess with the lime

and finally what mix ratio is best for scratch (if needed) and top coat with eml? im going onto those old imperial bricks

hope everyones ok and making proper money again

easier to use meter wide fibre mesh. saves a lot of hassle.

yep u need to scratch coat. might need 3 coats depending on how flat u fix it.

dont think lime or sbr are nessasery.

as above, why use eml unless brickwork looks dodgey?
wouldn't worry with sbr.
scratch coat, sand and cement 5:1
i would still put lime in the top coat. sand, cement, lime. 6:1:1

you could hire a tyrolean gun and mix up some sbr/cement slurry first for a propper bond. Sticks like hell and the rough surface is an excellent key. Then use fibreglass mesh in the scratch so no cracks

ive got you use eml because im joining it to an extension and the plasterer used it when he did it so she wants it putting on the old original part of the building as well
shes supplying materials i told her it has to be stainless steel

is it a bit awkward making a scratch coat? does your comb get stuck in the eml?

your scratcher shouldnt go all the way through the scratch coat. just scratch the surface.

another thing im a bit concerned about
the render is on the second lift to gable below that is brick
around the render is timber painted black to seperate the 2
the main reason for re rendering is because of cracks near the timber and below the window

whats causing the cracks is it just the timber moving?

will eml stop this?

Timber can and proberly will cause it to crack, can't you remove the timber?...You could mesh over it, but personely i would remove it

Get some dcm and put it over the timber first ,fix it to the brick work not the timber then fix the eml make sure its at least 200mm wider and longer than the timber . You will also get a heavy suction from the sractch coat .

what is the mix ratio for that mix
2/1 mix it like normal in a mixer youll get about 6 shovels then pour half a 5 litre tub of sbr in, you might need to add a bit of water
