Can anyone help if I take an external facing wall back to brick and dot and dab why the dabs would get any colder than a sand and cement render would? Have been told not to dot and dab as the dabs get cold and moisture can build up but would his not happen with sand and cement render as well as this wild be touching the brick wall the same as the dabs would???

Dab is a gypsum based product and soaks up any moisture ( condensation on the cold wall ) sand and cement with a splash of water proofer will fight off any moisture...but can still suffer from condensation... so insulate and stud it if you want to use boards or flaot with renovating as it has better u values....

Sand and cement wins all the time. Dot and dab is a s**t job let's be honest. I'd do what @Olican said. But to answer your question sand and cement it. Make sure there is a vant in the room so should be no trouble with condensation.
