Distressed lime finish - Re skim

How do you obtain a distressed finish using lime putty 3/2? Do you just float it and not sponge? Or is there an alternative product e.g hydraulic lime finish which would be more suitable.

Just looking for a cottage type not perfect with a few imperfections finish.

Just go with your normal finish
