went to look at a mates house who had it rendered bout 2 years ago.the renders got long skinny cracks coming off diagonally from the windows, even joins up to the nextwindow above(from ground floor windows to 1st floor windows).theres also one running horizontally bout 6.5 ft all around.i thought the the horizontal one might be from where they started a set before putting a scaff up to do the rest or the other way round(started at the top and did bottom bit last)but without feathering it in very well.i know it was done during very wet weather, surely not a good idea?ive only done a bit of s&c so could anyone shed any light??cheers ears. What say you segs??

id say your prolly right about the dividing line...if they aint got the bottom bit on before the top half had set theres a weak spot...
window cracks could easily be movement...are there any lintels in?? or are they plastic windows? reason i ask is that it used to be very common pre 2002 to just rip the windows out and fit new plastic with total disregard to lintels/structural integrity...
failing any of that id put it down to shrinkage...
church is the man for render though, id go with whatever he says...

I think the question has been anwserd pretty much , the vertical window to window one is movement in the building a weak spot ! Made worse if bond in the brick/ blockwork falls in the wrong place, also if the lintels have or are failing or have not spanned the blockwork correctly, the horizontal crack could well be were the lift of the scaffold fell, somtimes working from top to bottom thickness in the render can creep up below the trowel also if the render is not closed off (by pushing it on to the wall ) you can get a tiny air pocket causing a hair line crack this is not helped if the scaffold is to close to the building and the lifts are in the wrong place, only hot and cold weather affects rendering.... well and rain of course but not in a structual way ;), i have also seen horizontal cracks in rendering caused by the brick ties failing on older buildings .

cheers for the replies guys def makes sense what you say,i think the lintels have shifted a bit.bit late in replying as the missus finally dropped on thursday 2.30am,got a little girl!!!got the nursery finished just in time.just got to put new skirts n architrave on now, shes got the best room in the house!gonna try n put some before n after pics on soon.....thats of the room, not the birth.... ::)well chuffed i am
