Good evening
I am writing on here in the hope that someone can put my mind at rest. My 28 year old son is a plasterer and has developed a cough. A colleague of his has told him that he's had it for about a year now, so he went to see his GP, who sent him for a scan/xray today. Is it common for plasterers to have a cough? I am really worried about him and i know he is worried too. He always wears a mask when mixing plaster.Thanks. Alice

Not common at all, I have been at it 27 yrs, don't think its plaster related unless he has allergy to plaster products

It's not putting your mind at ease but a cough for that long is definately not normal for a plasterer or anyone else for that matter. Does he have or did he have asthma as a child? I had asthma when I was younger and plastering killed my chest for a long time when I first started. Still get a bit wheezy and coughy from time to time.

Same here, stopped smoking 3 months ago and developed a cough, which has lasted for around 8 weeks and still going.

Going for results of a chest X-ray today.

Iv seen the GP 4 times and had to beg for a chest X-ray, its probably slight asthma, brought on with the hot weather.

I hope he's OK and you come back and tell us what happened.

Talking of allergy remedies, I had some anti histamines once that actually caused a cough/ wheeze... reading the contraindications after some time, it said to stop taking them if this happened! Who would have thought.
