hope he replies to you marky, not sure about his comments chum chum, overstepped the mark
captain nairac was a very brave soldier in northern ireland who went undercover against the i.r.a.,
he got himself known in various pubs and joined in singing rebel songs etc
but 3/4 years before he was photographed in his army uniform at a road block,
this is how they recognised him
he was attacked /beaten up out side the pub ,and taken away to be interrogated
he fought valiantly, but there was to many,
he was tortured and beaten up badly,at one point drilled through his kneecaps
he did not give any information away at all, this was confirmed by the i.r.a.
he was then shot

The man was a total loose cannon, going around not only pretending to be Irish but assuming the name of a real Provo in hiding.

That was absolutely never going to end well. The Irish are far too beady eyes for that.

Thankfully it was only his own life that he was so cavalier with.

quite right stevio, his officers above him advised against it, but he was born in ireland and could talk the language, and unfourtanetly thought he could do it, but that photograph did it,

Nope. Born in Mauritius and educated in England. Oxford, no less.

In fact I've heard that they were on to him pretty much from the get-go.

Going about with a fake accent among the local - he might as well have been wearing a moustache and glasses
