cleaning brickwork

new to this forum so go easy:RpS_biggrin:. I have just removed very old plaster from the brickwork of an old terraced house and was wondering what to clean the brickwork with. I am going to be covering with dot and dab plasterboard but obviously the walls are extremely dusty and have been told to just hose the walls down. Is this normal practice or do i need to clean with some proprietary cleaner or brick cleaner.

Brush them off with a large sweeping brush then either a very very weak coat of pva or soak the walls just before dabbing

Thanks for that. I thought hosing the walls was a bit extreme, and considerably messy
