hi lads, got a job where a chimney breast has been removed in a bedroom & on the existing brick work there is a bit of thick soot. whats the best way to deal with it so it doesn't bleed thru the plaster? cheers

Loads of soap and water !like if you were washing your car then glue the bstid if needed jobs a gooden !!!

No mate, if i remember rightly its for priming hard woods !! The old man used to use it all the time. The two chimney breasts in our old house were knocked into one, and on one side yellow staining used to come through the paper from the soot, he took the paper off primed the wall with this kit, and its never bled since. Not sure if its called Aluminium primer, that's what it was known as then, but its silver in colour.

So its an aluminium based primer seems a bit expensive, ive done fire places out with sand and cement and never had problem with the soot even when they are covered in it just preped it with pva.

Agreed mate, it is a bit pricey, just remember the old man swearing by it. Saying that he did work for the corporation for a while so probably never paid for it....
